Island Health: Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)Presenter: Amanda Proznick MA, RN. Regional

Presentation

Amanda has 40 years of experience in health care, with 36 of them working for Island Health in a variety of acute care and community settings. Her current focus with the MAiD program is on program quality and safety and to ensure both the public and health care professionals can navigate MAiD services on Vancouver Island.

On March 17, 2021, the federal government enacted Bill C-7, amending the Criminal Code regarding medical assistance in dying (MAiD). The legislation introduced significant changes, including revised eligibility criteria for individuals with a “grievous and irremediable condition.” There are now two distinct eligibility pathways: one for individuals whose natural death is reasonably foreseeable (RFND) and another for those whose natural death is not.

Amanda will present the following to EFCN members:
• Legislative overview
• Island Health MAiD Program overview
• Q & A
